MetroArts: the design brief
MODULE 01
INSTRUCTOR:
DAVID SCARPELLI
Through the progression of this class, while you are learning and advancing your skills with InDesign, you will be working on a single large design project consisting of multiple elements, with assignments and deadlines to meet in each module. You must meet all deadlines and follow all instructions very closely. At certain intervals, you will be assembling single-page documents into multi-page documents. The result at the end of the course will be a 16-page magazine produced in InDesign.

Design and produce a new magazine titled MetroArts. MetroArts is a monthly urban magazine dedicated to one city or metropolitan area and targeted to an intelligent, design-savvy, culturally sophisticated audience. The city need not be San Francisco; it may be the closest city to you that has an arts scene. The goal of the magazine is to provide highly selective art, culture and lifestyle information to an audience consisting of approximately 18–34-year-olds who are “hip” and interested in keeping up with trends and goings-on about town in the art, music, film, design and urban lifestyle scene. The look and feel of the magazine should be contemporary, with a “clean” design that is attractive to the intended audience. The objective of this magazine is to develop a dependable reputation and brand and become a “must-read” each month for those in the identified audience, thereby increasing circulation, subscriptions, and ad pages each month.
